Some history on the Browning/ Colt 1911:
The M1911 is a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, pistol chambered in .45 ACP. It was issued as the sidearm for the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1986.
Designed by John Browning and officially adopted the the US Army on March 29, 1911 (hence the model designation M1911) it is the best known of his designs. This pistol has been copied worldwide, and his operating system became the preeminent type of the 20th century.
As of late, an entire industry has emerged offering parts, accessories, custom gunsmithing, training and competition for the Model 1911. In fact, the model 1911 style pistols have become the standard for many shooting competitions.
