HOW TO BUY A SUPPRESSOR OR SILENCER ONLINE
Buying a suppressor, also called a silencer, online is possible when the firearm and transaction comply with applicable federal and state law.
The process for buying a suppressor changed significantly in 2026. The federal transfer and making taxes for silencers were reduced to $0 effective January 1, 2026, and a federal court later permanently enjoined enforcement of certain NFA provisions for the plaintiffs and, where applicable, their members and customers. The scope of that injunction is not a blanket nationwide repeal of the NFA, so the procedure can depend on the specific purchaser and transaction. (Federal Register, Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF)

DO SUPPRESSORS HAVE TO BE SHIPPED TO AN FFL?
For a normal interstate dealer transaction, yes.
If you purchase a suppressor online from an out-of-state firearms dealer, the suppressor is generally shipped to a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL) in your state for the required transfer.
For NFA transactions that remain subject to the traditional federal process, the receiving dealer also generally needs the appropriate Special Occupational Tax (SOT) status to receive and transfer NFA firearms.
A suppressor purchased from Red Circle Tactical is not normally shipped directly to a customer's home.
The exact procedure can differ for transactions covered by the current federal court injunction, so confirm the process with us before ordering.
HOW TO BUY A SUPPRESSOR ONLINE
STEP 1: SHOP FOR YOUR SUPPRESSOR
Browse our online store and select the suppressor or silencer you want to purchase.
We carry suppressors from leading manufacturers when available, including brands such as Dead Air, SilencerCo, SureFire, Gemtech, Rugged, YHM, and others.
Before ordering, make sure the suppressor is legal to possess in the state where it will ultimately be transferred or possessed.

STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR RECEIVING FFL/SOT DEALER
For the traditional interstate transfer process, your suppressor is shipped to a receiving FFL in your state.
For NFA transactions subject to the traditional NFA process, the receiving dealer must have the appropriate SOT authorization to receive and transfer NFA firearms.
Before placing an order, contact the dealer you intend to use and confirm that they accept suppressor transfers.
Ask about:
- Their suppressor/NFA transfer fee
- Whether they currently accept suppressor transfers
- Their FFL and SOT status
- Any additional paperwork or appointment requirements
STEP 3: PROVIDE THE RECEIVING DEALER'S INFORMATION
Once you have selected your receiving dealer, have the dealer provide the documentation required for the transaction.
For traditional dealer-to-dealer NFA transfers, Red Circle Tactical can use ATF Form 3 to transfer an NFA firearm to another qualified FFL/SOT. ATF identifies Form 3 as the tax-exempt transfer form used between qualified federal firearms licensees. (ATF eForms)
STEP 4: WE COMPLETE THE APPLICABLE TRANSFER PROCESS
For transactions that remain subject to the traditional NFA process, Red Circle Tactical submits the applicable transfer through the ATF eForms system.
ATF currently reports very fast Form 3 processing compared with the historical process. For July 2026, ATF reported an average one-day processing time for eForm 3 applications, although individual transactions can take longer. (ATF Current Processing Times)
Once the applicable dealer-to-dealer transfer is approved, we can ship the suppressor to the receiving dealer.
STEP 5: COMPLETE THE TRANSFER WITH YOUR RECEIVING DEALER
For transactions that require the traditional Form 4 process, the receiving dealer will help you complete the applicable ATF paperwork and submit the transfer application.
Depending on the type of purchaser and transaction, this can include:
- ATF Form 4
- Fingerprints
- Photograph or other required identification
- Information concerning individual, trust, or legal-entity ownership
- Required background-check information
ATF currently identifies Form 4 as the application used by a qualified FFL to transfer an NFA firearm to an individual or other non-licensee. (ATF eForms)
The federal transfer tax for silencers is now $0, effective January 1, 2026. (Federal Register)
However, the traditional Form 4 process does not necessarily apply to every suppressor transaction in 2026 because of the current federal court litigation described above.
STEP 6: PICK UP YOUR SUPPRESSOR
Once all required federal and state requirements have been satisfied, your receiving dealer will contact you to arrange pickup.
The dealer will complete any required transfer paperwork and background-check procedures applicable to your transaction.
Do not assume that a suppressor is ready for pickup simply because it has arrived at the dealer.
CAN ANY FFL TRANSFER A SUPPRESSOR?
Not necessarily.
For a traditional NFA suppressor transaction, the receiving dealer needs the appropriate federal licensing and SOT status to receive and transfer the NFA firearm.
An ordinary FFL that does not have the necessary NFA/SOT authorization generally cannot receive a suppressor as an NFA transfer.
Before purchasing from an online seller, confirm that your receiving dealer handles suppressor transfers.
CAN A SUPPRESSOR BE SHIPPED DIRECTLY TO YOUR HOUSE?
For a traditional interstate suppressor purchase through a firearms dealer, the suppressor is generally shipped to an FFL/SOT dealer in the buyer's state rather than directly to the buyer's home.
Because the 2026 federal court injunction affects enforcement of certain NFA provisions only for the parties and transactions covered by the judgment, do not assume that the traditional process has been eliminated for every customer or transaction.

HOW LONG DOES BUYING A SUPPRESSOR TAKE?
There is no single guaranteed timeline.
When a dealer-to-dealer Form 3 is required, ATF's July 2026 data shows an average one-day processing time for eForm 3 applications. (ATF Current Processing Times)
For traditional Form 4 transactions, ATF's July 2026 data shows an 8-day median processing time for individual eForm 4 applications and a 33-day average for trust eForm 4 applications. Individual transactions can take longer because of additional research, application issues, or fluctuations in volume. (ATF Current Processing Times)
The current federal litigation can also affect whether the traditional NFA process applies to a particular transaction.
Do not rely on an older 30-, 60-, or 90-day estimates when planning a suppressor purchase.
BUYING A SUPPRESSOR FROM AN OUT-OF-STATE DEALER
You can purchase a suppressor from an out-of-state dealer when the firearm and transaction are lawful and the applicable transfer requirements can be satisfied.
The basic traditional process is:
You purchase the suppressor online → the seller transfers it to your receiving FFL/SOT → the receiving dealer completes the applicable customer transfer process → you take possession after all required approvals and checks are completed.
State law still matters. A suppressor that is lawful in one state may be prohibited or subject to additional requirements in another.
INDIVIDUAL, TRUST OR OTHER LEGAL ENTITY?
Suppressors may be purchased individually or, where permitted, by a qualifying trust or other legal entity.
