🔇 Silencers (Suppressors) Are Legal in Michigan!

✅ Legal Since 2011 – Here's What You Need to Know

In September 2011, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette issued Opinion No. 7260, which clarified the legal status of firearm suppressors (also known as silencers or mufflers) in the state.

📜 Key Legal Takeaways:

"The possession, manufacture, or sale of a firearm silencer is permitted in Michigan under MCL 750.224(1)(b) if the person is licensed or approved to possess, manufacture, or sell such a device by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), as required by MCL 750.224(3)(c)."

Legal for Federally Approved Individuals

If you're approved by the ATF, you're allowed to legally own, make, or sell suppressors in Michigan.

Unlawful Without Federal Approval

Possessing or selling a suppressor without proper federal licensing is a felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison under MCL 750.224(2).
