How to Buy a Silencer (Suppressor) Online

Buying a suppressor (silencer) online—whether locally or from out of state—is easier than you may think.

At Red Circle Tactical, a trusted Michigan-based silencer dealer, we simplify the process for you.

Suppressors are legal under the National Firearms Act (NFA) as Title II (Class III/NFA) items—protected by the Second Amendment. Before NFA regulations, suppressors like the Maxim were common household items.

✅ Who Can Own a Silencer?

Silencers are legal in most U.S. states, including:
AL, AR, AK, AZ, CO, CT, FL, GA, ID, IA, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NV, NH, NM, NC, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV & WY (check local law before purchasing).

You’re eligible to own a suppressor if:

  • You’re 21 or older
  • A U.S. resident in an approved state
  • Have no felony convictions
  • Pay the one-time $200 NFA transfer tax
  • Pass a BATFE background check (approval time: 120–365 days)
  • You may hold it individually, in a trust, or under a corporation

✅ Finding a Class III Dealer

  1. Locate an FFL dealer with a valid SOT (NFA/Class III) license.
  2. Confirm they accept suppressor transfers and inquire about their fees.
  3. If they agree, ask them to email us their FFL and SOT licenses.
  4. We'll assist with paperwork once we receive it.
  5. You can search here.

✅ Helpful Tips

  • Always reference your name and order number in communication to speed processing.
  • Treat your dealer with respect—they are helping you through a regulated process.
  • Inspect your suppressor upon receipt. If it’s incorrect or damaged, do not finalize the transfer—contact us immediately. Once transferred, it becomes “used” and cannot be returned or exchanged.
