FIREARM OWNERSHIP RESTRICTIONS BY STATE


Basic firearm, magazine & ammunition ownership restrictions by state.

States and cities that restrict Magazine Capacity:

Aurora, IL - 15 round maximum.

California - 10 round maximum.

Cook County, IL - 10 round maximum.

Chicago, IL- 10 round maximum.

Cincinnati, OH​ - no mags over 10 rounds for a rifle and 15 rounds for a handgun.​

Cleveland, OH​ - no mags over 20 rounds for center fire and 30 rounds for .22 cal.​

Columbus, OH​ - no mags over 20 rounds for center fire.

Colorado - 15 round maximum and 8 round maximum in a shotgun.

Connecticut - 10 round maximum.

​Dayton, OH - no mags over 10 rounds for a rifle and 20 rounds for a handgun.

Delaware - 17 round maximum.

Franklin Park, IL - 16 round maximum (long guns only).

Hawaii - 10 round maximum.

Maryland - 10 round maximum.

Massachusetts - 10 round maximum. Exception only if customer provides Class A or B FID permit (Long guns) or Class A permit (Pistols), Dealer’s license for shipment​

New Jersey - 10 round maximum. LEO and/or Military Exemption.

New York - 10 round maximum.

Oak Park, IL - 10 round maximum (only long guns).

Ohio - 30 round maximum.

Riverdale, IL - 35 round maximum (only long guns).

Vermont - 10 rounds for long guns; 15 rounds for handguns.

Washington State - 10 round maximum (7rd maximum shotgun).

Washington, DC - 10 round maximum.


States and cities that restrict firearms:

California - Handguns must be on their approved roster list. So called 'Assault weapons'  (including .50 BMG rifles) are banned from sale or manufacture. There are some exceptions for 'California approved' versions of  so called 'assault rifles'. Varying restrictions on all semi-automatic firearms. Rimfire with 10rd or less capacity OK. No sales of Franklin Armory Binary Triggers. Firearms safety certificate generally required to purchase a firearm. Universal background check; all transfers including private must use a licensed dealer. 10-day waiting period for all firearms. Monthly transfer limits,

Colorado - No machine guns.  No magazines with more than 15 rounds (Boulder, Vail and Denver 10 round max magazine capacity).  Ban or limitations on so called 'assault weapons'.  No non-compliant AR and AK pistols. No Stripped or complete Receivers. Assault weapon ban or “delay” limitations,

Connecticut - No semi-auto rifles including so called 'assault weapons'.  No Stripped or Complete Receivers. No Franklin Armory Binary Triggers. Permit to purchase, magazine capacity (10 rounds). Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

Delaware - No so called 'assault rifles'.  No variants of AR15 or AK47, rifle or pistol. Must be 21 to purchase firearms. Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

Florida - Age restrictions, delayed transfers. No Franklin Armory Binary Triggers. 3-day or 5-day delayed transfers excluding weekends and legal holidays.

Hawaii - All firearms and ammunition must be registered with the chief of police. No home built firearms AKA Ghost Guns. No Franklin Armory Binary Triggers. Assault weapon ban, firearm registration required, permit to purchase. 14-day waiting period on all firearms.

Illinois - (Aurora, Cook County and City of Chicago, Deerfield, Highland Park ) - No sales to the city of Chicago. No so called 'assault weapons'. No stripped or complete lowers. State FOID required to purchase and possess firearm and/or ammo. Delayed transfers. 72-hour waiting period all firearms.

Iowa - No Franklin Armory Binary Triggers.

Maryland - Varying restrictions on so called 'assault weapons'. No home built firearms AKA Ghost Guns. Permit to purchase.  Handgun registration, handgun Private Party Transfers, 7-day waiting period for handguns.

Massachusetts - Very specific rules about handguns, Varying restrictions on so called 'assault weapons'. FID card required in many instances.

Michigan- permit to purchase /universal background checks (starting in early 2024). Safe storage requirements. 

Minnesota - Permit to purchase, limitations on so called 'assault weapons'. 30-day waiting period (Effective August 1, 2023).

Nevada - Universal background checks. No home built firearms AKA Ghost Guns.

New Jersey - FID card required to purchase and permit required to carry handgun. Varying restrictions on all semi-automatic firearms. 7-day waiting period for handguns.

New York - No so called 'assault weapons' or high capacity magazines. Varying restrictions on all semi-automatic firearms. No Stripped or Complete Receivers. No home built firearms. No Handguns in New York City.  No Franklin Armory Binary Triggers. Ammunition must ship to FFL. NY SAFE act applies to storage of firearms. License required to carry or possess a handgun. Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

North Carolina - Handgun Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

Oregon - State transfer and import restrictions. Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

Pennsylvania - (specifically Philadelphia, PA - assault weapons ban or limitations). Handgun Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

Rhode Island – No Franklin Armory Binary Triggers. 7-day waiting period all firearms, Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

Vermont - 21 years old to purchase all firearms, magazine capacity  limits: 10 rounds for long guns, 15 rounds for handguns), Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

Virginia - Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

Washington State -  firearm registration, ban or limitations on so called 'assault weapons' and most semi-auto firearms.  No rifles under 30 inches in length. No complete or stripped uppers or lowers.  No thumbhole stocks, no forward grips on any firearm, no pistol grip weapons, no AK or AR pistols, no build kits, no threaded barrels. Firearm registration, 21 years old to purchase semi-auto rifle & safety course certification. Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL.

Washington D.C. - Varying restrictions on all semi-automatic firearms.  (We do not ship any firearm or ammunition here). Private Party Transfers must be conducted through an FFL, 10-day waiting period all firearms


States and cities that restrict us from ammunition sales and shipping:

Alaska - no ammunition due to shipping restrictions.

Annapolis - no ammunition.

Bronx, Brookyln, Manhattan, Queens & Staten Island - no ammunition.

California - No online ammo purchases unless the vendor is California approved. Must ship to FFL. Must past eligibility check to purchase. No ammo to Avalon, Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, San Francisco.

Connecticut - no ammunition.

Chicago, IL - no ammunition.

Cook County, IL - no ammunition.

Hawaii - no ammunition due to shipping restrictions.

Illinois - FOID required.

Los Angeles, CA - no ammunition.

Massachusetts - ship to FFL only.

New Jersey - ship to FFL only.

New York - ship to  FFL only.

New York City - no ammunition.

Rhode Island - ship to FFL only.

Washington D.C. - no ammunition.

APO & FPO Address - no ammunition.

USPS PO Boxes - no ammunition.
